LGSL was founded in June 2025 after James took the decision to set up on his own.
After nearly 15 years working for several companies, undertaking archaeological geophysics, and building successful geophysics teams, this was the new challenge that James required.
As a committed individual to those he has previously worked for, and after years of dedication to those companies, it was time to devote his efforts to his own project rather than others.
With a Master’s Degree in Archaeological Prospection and a Degree in Geoarchaeology, and years of commercial archaeological experience James has the expertise and understanding required to run any archaeological geophysics project required by a client.
His dedication to the correct use of non-invasive survey techniques, and finding when present, Archaeological remains, are his love. His precision and clarity of results are key in successfully providing clients the professional interpretation and and risk avert advice they require.
If a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing right, with no cutting corners!
Experience
James has worked and managed some of the largest projects in archaeological geophysics. These range from high level infrastructure projects such as HS2, EWR, A9 and A96 upgrades, as well as several large linear electrical connector routes for offshore windfarms such as Hornsea 4 and Dogger Bank A-D projects. He has also worked on several Carbon Capture schemes, including both Drax and Viking. In more recent years the boom in solar farms, and windfarms, have also become a key part of his work portfolio. Many of these projects have been 1000+ hectares in size which require meticulous planning, to be control and recorded diligently, with detailed final reporting.
James has his own research interests too, surveying the parish for which he grew up in North Yorkshire in his spare time. He has also undertaken surveys for several community groups. In more recent months he has helped the Thornborough Archaeology Group and is now a board member of the International Society for Archaeological Prospection.
My Clients Expectations
The approach to any survey should be bespoke, planned, and designed for each client’s requirements. Data acquisition should be accurate, speedy and professional. The methodology planned and signed off in advance. The results provided clearly, with advice as required.
